...a new album?

“Some of us were islands”

May 24th, 2024

Moon Under Water's third album, Some of us were islands, is a hazy tale of contrasts – of beginnings and endings and the shambles in between. Layering elements of indie-folk and art-rock, the album represents an evolution: currently living in Berlin, songwriter and producer Michael Bloss is joined by versatile drummer Adam Newton.

The collaboration expands the Moon Under Water sonic aesthetic in multiple directions. An ambitious and absorbing soundscape emerges thanks to Newton’s presence, allowing Bloss a new freedom in his singing and guitar work, as he navigates new musical terrain following two well-received albums firmly rooted in the folk-pop realm.

The album presents an unprecedented willingness to experiment with song structures, arrangements and lyrical ideas, reaching for a melodic and harmonic character that evokes artists like Death Cab, The Shins, Andrew Bird and Okkervil River.
